WRESTLING NEWS ROUNDUP
Despite the mini hiatus that both Warrior Pro Wrestling and Lucha POWER are currently observing, there is a ton of news floating around both promotions as the year comes to a close. Lets get straight to some of the highlights…
Doc Wyatt has stayed busy in the news, despite his recent loss that saw an end to one of the longest modern championship reigns of any promotion in the past year. He has insisted that he won’t rematch with Lil Lariato, and instead has turned his focus to another Texan- Lance Marshall. Needless to say, words have been exchanged. The two will face off at the big Phoenix Rising year-end show, and all signs point to this being an epic showdown….

Doc isn’t the only Warrior Pro wrestler keeping busy during the break. Rampage Hunter looked impressive in his debut at PCP, and he’s had a few things to say about it. The showing earned him another match that could see the former Warrior Pro champion vying for PCP’s top belt. There are rumors that we could also see more of PCP’s emerging talent on future Warrior Pro shows next year as well.

The tale end of 2019 saw a large chunk of Warrior Pro’s roster listed on the injury report. That should start to swing the other way starting in 2020. Sources say “Brick” Casey has been medically cleared and could presumably start taking booking dates as early as next week. Austin Baron was also quietly cleared to resume wrestling, though sources say he has not determined when/if he will return to the ring. Red Masterson and John Logan are also expected to be cleared to return in early 2020, though there is no expected date for either.

Tank McDaniel was asked recently about the prospects of a women’s division in Warrior Pro, and his answer was more than coy:
“I’m a big fan of women’s wrestling, and I would love to have matches in Warrior Pro- but at the moment we don’t have a roster. That could certainly change, and there are also quite a few quality women out there not getting enough dates.”
This would be the first time Tank’s answer around a potential women’s division wasn’t met with a “not in the near future” but it also wasn’t a definitive answer.

In that same interview, Tank also gave an update on the remodel of Pioneer Hall:
“Its going really well- I’m really happy with how its going to turn out. We plan on running a big Warrior Grounds and a PPV event in the building in January to properly kick off the new building and the new year. We’ll be releasing dates and ticket information in a couple weeks.”

Finally, for the first time ever, the Wrestling Monitor will be doing year end awards. Scroll below for the categories and finalists. While The Monitor will be choosing the eventual winners, readers are more than welcome to submit their choice for each category. Winners will be revealed before the end of the year…
WRESTLER OF THE YEAR
“Gentleman” Doc Wyatt
260 days. 4 defenses. Runner up in the G2 tournament. Main evented every Warrior Pro show save for one. Became Lone Star Champion in TIPWF. You could make the argument that Doc Wyatt put Warrior Pro on the map and kept it there with a laundry list of memorable feuds both inside and outside the promotion. The winner of this category will likely be the worst kept secret.
Rampage Hunter
Fun fact. Rampage fought exclusively for championships in Warrior Pro over the last year. He is the only wrestler not named Doc Wyatt to win and defend the heavyweight title, as well as the first non-iWe wrestler to win the promotions Intercontinental title. His recent run in PCP seems to point to another banner year in 2020.
Lobo Muerte
Ended the historic reign of Doc Wyatt and had killer matches for the Lucha POWER title (vs Dungeon Dominguez) and La Mascara de Choque (vs Cicatrices). Add to it a fantastic G2 tournament and Lobo’s incredible workrate, and this has made him one of the most popular talents outside Warrior Pro that has wrestled with the promotion.
MATCH OF THE YEAR
All of these matches were rated 5 stars at the time…
Rampage Hunter vs John Logan (New Dawn)
Rampage Hunter vs Dirk van Oranje (G2 Finals)
Doc Wyatt vs John Logan (Warriorversary)
Doc Wyatt vs Lil Lariato (DEADEYE)
FEUD OF THE YEAR
John Logan and Doc Wyatt
This one was a slow burn since Warrior Pro opened its doors last year. The two stars of the promotion battled it out in a series of matches over the summer that seemed to continually raise the stakes. Logan avenged his G2 loss the year prior, Doc pulled out a miracle win at Warriorversary, and the champ emerged triumphantly in the rubber match inside a steel cage.
Vic Baron and Machine Gun Mayhem
This was one of the more bizarre stories of the year. Vic was allegedly kidnapped by MGM, then was arrested for assaulting Machine Gun at a fan meet and greet. The climactic match in a steel cage was one of the more brutal matches of the year in any promotion, and re-established Vic as a major player in the company.
Jackson Hole Outlaws and Cogburn Ranch
Potential to be back on the ballot next year as well, since this rivalry is faaaar from over. It started with Doc Wyatt beating Cowboy Johnston for the Lone Star Championship. That would lead into a blood feud between Lil Lariato that has seen the two battle over both the Lone Star and Warrior Pro championships. In between both stables have brawled all over multiple arena’s- even crashing a wedding. This seems destined to peak with a trilogy match between Doc and Lariato, but time will tell if that match comes to fruition.
